23. How do I set up audio input and output on my computer?

After connecting the PD500W, open your computer’s sound settings and select the appropriate input device:

• Wireless receiver connection: Select Maono Wireless Mic RX.

• USB cable connection: Select Maono PD500W Mic USB.

On Windows, go to Settings > System > Sound. On macOS, go to System Settings > Sound.

If your headphones are connected to the microphone and you want to hear computer audio through them, select the corresponding Maono device as your computer’s audio output as well.

24. How do I mute the microphone? Does setting the gain to 0 mute it?

You can mute or unmute the microphone in either of the following ways:

• Tap the touch-sensitive mute button on the microphone.

• Open the device page in Maono Link and click the microphone mute icon.

Setting the gain to 0 does not mute the microphone. Gain controls how much the microphone signal is amplified. To mute the microphone, use the mute function.

These mute controls do not affect the XLR output.

25. How do I enable the digital pop filter?

Open Maono Link, go to the PD500W device page, and enable the digital pop filter.

26. How do I select, customize, or reset a sound preset?

Open the device page in Maono Link and go to the sound presets section:

• Select a preset: Choose an existing preset that suits your needs.

• Create a custom preset: Click the option to create a new preset, then adjust the gain and Q value of each EQ band to fine-tune your sound.

• Reset a preset: Open the preset’s editing page and click Reset.

Start with the default settings and make small adjustments while listening to the results. EQ helps refine your vocal tone; it cannot make your voice sound like someone else’s.

27. How do I check the microphone’s remaining battery level?

Connect the microphone, open Maono Link, and check the current battery level on the device page.

28. Do the microphone’s buttons and sound effects work when using an XLR connection?

When connected to a mixer or audio interface via XLR, the PD500W outputs an unprocessed audio signal. The microphone’s onboard controls and digital sound effects do not affect the XLR output.

Adjust gain and apply effects through your mixer, audio interface, or recording software.

The PD500W is a dynamic microphone and does not require 48V phantom power when connected via XLR.

29. Should I choose Mono, Stereo, or Safety Track?

• Mono: Suitable for calls, livestreams, and general recording. The same audio is sent to both the left and right channels.

• Stereo: Suitable when two microphones are connected to one receiver and you want to edit each speaker’s audio separately. Each microphone is assigned to a separate channel: one to the left and the other to the right.

• Safety Track: Useful when recording audio with large volume changes. The left channel carries the original audio level, while the right channel carries a backup signal that is 9 dB lower for use in post-production.

For recordings that will be played back directly with matching audio in both channels, choose Mono.

30. Can I use Safety Track with one microphone? Why is the right channel quieter?

Yes. Safety Track can be used with a single microphone in wireless receiver mode.

The right channel is intentionally 9 dB quieter than the left channel. It provides a lower-level backup signal that you can use during editing.

Avoid publishing the unedited Safety Track recording as your final stereo audio, as listeners will hear different volume levels in the left and right channels. Before publishing, select the appropriate track and adjust the final channel routing and audio level.

31. How do I select the PD500W in Adobe Audition?

After connecting the microphone, open Audio Hardware settings in Adobe Audition and select the appropriate Maono input device:

• Wireless connection: Maono Wireless Mic RX.

• USB cable connection: Maono PD500W Mic USB.

32. What is the PD500W’s polar pattern?

The PD500W has a cardioid polar pattern. It primarily picks up sound from the front while reducing sound pickup from the sides and rear.

33. Where can I download Maono Link?

34. Can I remove the microphone body from the original yoke and reinstall it in the opposite orientation?

The microphone body cannot be removed from the original yoke. The PD500W features a hidden-cable yoke design with an integrated FPC ribbon cable inside. Attempting to remove or reverse the microphone body may damage the internal cable and the microphone. To adjust the microphone angle, please use the yoke's built-in angle adjustment.

35. When using a boom arm, the control knobs end up facing downward and are difficult to access. How should I position the microphone?

If the controls face downward when the PD500W is mounted on a boom arm, we recommend positioning the microphone horizontally or at a side angle rather than mounting it upside down. This keeps the controls within easy reach without having to remove or reverse the microphone body in the yoke.

36. The pop filter is very tight and difficult to remove. Is there an easier way to take it off?

The pop filter is designed with a secure fit to keep it firmly in place during use. To remove it, grip the pop filter around the mounting ring and gently twist it while pulling outward, similar to unscrewing a bottle cap. This should make it easier to remove than pulling it straight out. Avoid pulling on the mesh portion of the pop filter itself.

37. How do I properly mount the PD500W to a microphone stand or boom arm with a 3/8" or 5/8" thread?

The bottom of the PD500W yoke supports both 3/8" and 5/8" threaded mounts. For a 3/8" mount, rotate the microphone and yoke assembly onto the stand until securely attached. For a 5/8" mount, use the adjustable adapter ring at the bottom and turn the ring clockwise until the microphone is securely mounted. To remove the microphone from the stand or boom arm, simply reverse the corresponding steps.

38. My XLR cable blocks the boom arm adjustment. What should I do?

The PD500W package includes an approximately 3-inch extension pole for this purpose. Install the extension between the bottom of the microphone yoke and the boom arm to create additional clearance. This provides more room for the XLR connector and cable, preventing them from interfering with the microphone's angle adjustment.

39. The PD500W has a built-in battery. Will battery aging eventually make the microphone unusable?

The PD500W's internal battery is primarily used for wireless operation. Even if the battery capacity gradually decreases after extended use, it does not mean the entire microphone becomes unusable. The PD500W can still be used through wired connections such as USB-C or XLR. To support both wireless runtime and long-term reliability, the PD500W uses a 3200mAh LG battery cell. Under controlled cycle-life testing, the battery is specified to retain at least 80% of its initial capacity after 1,000 full charge and discharge cycles. Like other lithium-ion batteries, its capacity will gradually decrease with age and repeated charging rather than suddenly failing after a fixed number of years. Cycle-life specification: tested at 25°C, with charging at 0.3C and discharging at 0.5C. Actual battery performance may vary depending on temperature, charging habits, product settings, and usage conditions.
