The Sound Card Cannot Fully Control the Accompaniment Volume

Download

Keywords: Sound card knob not working, cannot adjust accompaniment, knob ineffective, background music volume not changing, accompaniment too loud/too quiet, how to adjust accompaniment, how to control background music on phone, accompaniment knob no effect

Cause

Due to the hardware and system architecture of sound cards, they cannot directly control the system playback volume — this is a common characteristic across the entire audio industry.

The sound card functions as a downstream device that receives the audio signal (accompaniment or background music) from a computer or mobile device.

Example:
If the computer only outputs 50% volume to the sound card, the sound card can only adjust within that 50% range — it cannot increase the volume beyond what the computer provides.

Solution

For Computer Playback

  1. Set the computer’s speaker/system volume to maximum.
This ensures that the sound card receives a full, stable audio input.

  2. Once the computer output is maximized, you can use the sound card’s “Accompaniment” knob to make fine adjustments to the accompaniment or background music volume.

(See the computer sound adjustment diagram for reference.)

For Mobile Playback

  1. When playing accompaniment via Bluetooth or wired connection, make sure the phone’s media volume is set to maximum.
This guarantees sufficient input signal strength to the sound card.

  2. Then, use the sound card’s “Accompaniment” knob to adjust the background music volume as desired.

In Summary:

  • The sound card adjusts only within the range of the audio signal it receives.

  • To ensure effective volume control via the sound card’s knob, always set the source device volume (computer or mobile phone) to maximum first.
