Loopback Function (Also Known as “Internal Playback”)

Keywords: What is Loopback, What is Internal Playback, Function of Loopback, Loopback Explanation, Internal Playback Explanation

Description:
The Loopback (or Internal Playback) function allows the sound played on your computer — such as music, videos, or any system audio — to be routed back through the sound card so it can be recorded or streamed by software on your computer.

In simple terms, when Loopback is enabled, the sound coming from your computer can be captured and recorded just like microphone input.
When Loopback is disabled, your computer cannot record or transmit the sound it is playing internally through the sound card.

Example (Narrow Sense):
If you are playing music on your computer while live streaming, and the Loopback function is turned off, the music playing on your computer will not be heard by your audience during the stream.
Enabling Loopback allows both your microphone and system sound (e.g., background music, game sound, or video audio) to be transmitted together to the live stream or recording software.

In Summary:

  • Loopback ON: The computer can record or broadcast both the microphone input and the system sound.

  • Loopback OFF: Only the microphone sound is recorded or transmitted; system sound is excluded.
