Can I use a USB microphone on a Chromebook?

Download
Most Chromebooks support plug-and-play functionality for USB microphones without needing special drivers, allowing them to work instantly for voice/video calls and recording. Simply plug the mic into a USB port (or use a USB-C adapter), then select

it as the active input device in the bottom-right status tray audio settings.
This video demonstrates how to connect a USB microphone to a Chromebook:
Steps to Set Up a USB Microphone:
  1. Connect the Microphone: Plug your USB microphone into a USB port on your Chromebook. If your microphone uses USB-A and your Chromebook only has USB-C ports, you will need a USB-C to USB-A adapter.
  2. Select the Microphone as Input:
    • Click on the time in the bottom-right corner of the screen to open the status tray.
    • Click the arrow (>) next to the volume slider.
    • Under the "Input" section, select your USB microphone.
  3. Adjust Volume: Ensure the input volume is appropriate and the microphone is not muted.
