No Background Music in Voice-Chat Applications (Twitch/Discord/TikTok)

Download

First, it is essential to clarify a fundamental premise: what is the primary functional purpose of voice-oriented applications?

For voice-chat apps such as Twitch, Discord, TikTok Voice Chat, and other similar platforms, the reason why background music cannot be played properly, or is noticeably suppressed or even completely filtered out, can be attributed to the following factors:

1. Underlying Software Logic

It is important to recognize that voice-chat applications are designed first and foremost to prioritize voice communication. Here, "voice" refers specifically to human speech (i.e., the conversation between two parties). Any audio signal other than human voice is automatically classified by the system as "ambient noise." Accompanying music thus falls directly into this category. This explains why background music playback on such platforms tends to be intermittent and unstable—in reality, occasional residual music is the exception, whereas being filtered out is the norm. The ultimate goal and foundational logic of these platforms are to ensure that the voices of both parties are transmitted clearly and without interference. Therefore, during a one-on-one voice chat, the suppression or removal of background music is a normal occurrence.

2. Solutions and Troubleshooting Suggestions

Currently, there is no direct or effective workaround for this issue, as it is dictated by the platforms' own fixed policies.
(a) In a co-connecting (live duo) scenario: unless the user starts a live broadcast or engages in a co-hosting session, the music playback may improve slightly, but the overall enhancement remains limited.
(b) User self-diagnosis: customers can be advised to test other features for cross-validation, such as starting a live stream or performing local recording—in these cases, audio output is typically normal.

3. Statement of Responsibility

This issue is unrelated to our products, as we have no ability to intervene in or control the audio processing strategies implemented by the platform side.
