Transmitter & Receiver mean

The terms “receiver” (RX) and “transmitter” (TX) are standard terminology in wireless microphone systems, and they describe the distinct roles of the two main units.

  • Transmitter (TX):
The transmitter is the unit that captures and sends audio wirelessly.  allowing it to directly record voices when clipped onto clothing. Alternatively, it can connect to an external lavalier microphone via a 3.5 mm input, giving users more flexibility in placement and sound quality. The transmitter digitizes the audio signal and transmits it via a 2.4 GHz digital wireless link with low

  •  latency and high stability, ensuring that the audio remains clear and synchronized.

  • Receiver (RX):
The receiver is the unit that accepts the transmitted signal from one or multiple transmitters and delivers the audio to the recording or output device. Depending on the system, the receiver may provide multiple output formats, such as:

    • 3.5 mm TRS analog output for cameras, audio recorders, or mixers.

    • USB-C/Lightning digital output for smartphones, tablets, and computers.

Practical Workflow Example

  1. The TX (transmitter) is clipped to the speaker’s collar, capturing their voice with the built-in mic.

  2. The audio signal is digitally transmitted wirelessly to the RX (receiver).

  3. The RX (receiver), mounted on a camera’s hot shoe, outputs the clean audio signal directly into the camera’s audio input.

  4. The camera records synchronized video and audio, eliminating the need for post-production syncing.

📊 Transmitter (TX) vs Receiver (RX) in Wireless Microphone Systems

Item Transmitter (TX) Receiver (RX)
Main Function Captures and transmits audio signals Receives and outputs audio signals
Audio Source Built-in microphone (clip-on) or external lavalier mic via 3.5 mm input Signal wirelessly transmitted from TX
Signal Processing Converts analog sound into digital signal and transmits it wirelessly (2.4 GHz) Decodes the received digital signal and outputs usable audio
Connection Options Directly connected to built-in or external mic

Multiple output types:

• 3.5 mm TRS → camera/recorder

• USB-C/Lightning → smartphone/computer

Power Supply Built-in rechargeable battery Built-in rechargeable battery (USB-C); may also be powered via connected device depending on design
Portability Small, lightweight with clip; wearable on collar or belt Usually mountable on camera hot shoe or clipped on smartphone rig
Use Case Worn by speaker, vlogger, or interviewee to capture voice Used by camera operator, streamer, or podcaster to receive and send audio to recording device(smartphone/camera/compter)
