No. The 3.5mm jack is for real-time headphone monitoring. Use USB-C to connect to a computer or mobile phone, and XLR to connect to an audio interface or mixer.
USB-C is suitable for direct connection to a computer or mobile phone and enables gain, DSP, scene, and monitoring settings in Maono Link. XLR is suitable for an audio interface, mixer, or other professional analog audio equipment. These are separate signal paths, so USB software controls should not be assumed to apply to the XLR path.
An audio interface is not required when the PD500X is connected directly to a computer or mobile phone via USB-C. XLR mode requires a suitable audio interface or mixer. The PD500X is a dynamic microphone, so 48V phantom power is not required for normal use.
Align the microphone connector with the desktop stand and turn the threaded mount on the microphone clockwise to install it. The connector and the microphone body form an integral structure. Do not disassemble or force the connector.
Install the extension pole on the boom arm as instructed. Then align the microphone connector with the mount and turn the microphone counterclockwise to install it. Do not disassemble the microphone connector.
Face the microphone grille at the sound source. The PD500X is a cardioid, end-address microphone. Do not speak into the side or bottom of the microphone. An incorrect orientation can make the voice quieter or muffled and increase the proportion of ambient sound.
There is no single distance that works for everyone. Start at a natural and stable close distance, then adjust according to your voice level and room reflections. Speaking too close can cause stronger proximity effect, plosives, and breath noise. Speaking too far away increases ambient sound and room reflections. A consistent distance is more important than repeatedly changing the gain.
This is the proximity effect. Increase the distance slightly, move your mouth a little off the microphone's main axis, and keep your speaking level stable. EQ can be used for further adjustment, but it cannot fully replace correct microphone placement.
P and B can create plosive air bursts, while T, K, and H can create strong breath or air bursts. First speak slightly off-axis, increase the distance a little, and keep the grille pointed correctly. Then enable Electronic Plosive Protection if needed. A physical pop filter may also help. Electronic Plosive Protection is an aid, not a replacement for correct placement.
Follow this order: move the microphone closer to the speaker and face it at the sound source; move air conditioners, fans, keyboards, and other noise sources away from the front of the microphone; reduce unnecessary input gain; then gradually increase Noise Reduction. Simply setting Noise Reduction to the maximum level may make the voice muffled, choppy, or metallic.
Use the USB A&C to USB-C 2-in-1 cable that supports data transfer. Connect the PD500X to the computer or mobile phone, then open Maono Link. The first time you use the mobile app, allow microphone access. If permission is denied, the app cannot control the microphone.
Select Maono PD500X Microphone as the system input device. On both Windows and macOS, confirm the device in the system sound settings, then select it separately in each recording, streaming, or meeting application.
Select Maono PD500X Microphone under Sound or Recording Devices and confirm that it is not muted and that the input level is appropriate. Then select PD500X again in the target application's audio settings. System recognition does not mean that every application has automatically switched to the microphone.
Select Maono PD500X Microphone under System Settings > Sound > Input and confirm that the input level changes when you speak. If the application still has no sound, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and allow the application to access the microphone.
Confirm that you are using a USB-C data cable and that Maono Link has microphone permission. If permission was denied the first time, enable it again in the mobile operating system's app permissions, then reopen the app or reconnect the microphone.
No. The PD500X is a dynamic microphone. Whether you connect it directly via USB-C or connect it to an audio interface via XLR, 48V phantom power is not required.
48 kHz is usually suitable for streaming, meetings, video, and most podcast projects because it offers broad compatibility. You can use 96 or 192 kHz if the entire project uses the same setting. The system, application, and project should use consistent settings. A higher sample rate does not necessarily make vocals sound better.
Check the following in order: whether the application has selected PD500X as its input device; whether the system and application have microphone permission; whether the microphone is muted; whether the system input level and application track are muted; and whether the recording track is armed. If there is still no sound, reconnect the microphone, try another USB port, and use a cable confirmed to support data transfer.
Use an XLR to XLR audio cable to connect the PD500X XLR output to the microphone input of an audio interface. Select the correct input channel on the audio interface or in the recording software. Connect headphones to the audio interface and use Direct Monitoring if supported.
This is a product limitation. The PD500X Mute function is available in USB mode, but the microphone cannot mute the XLR signal path. In XLR mode, mute the signal on the audio interface, mixer, or recording software.
You can turn on the built-in preamp when the audio interface does not provide enough gain or when you need higher microphone output sensitivity. The PD500X provides +20 dB and +30 dB settings. Start with the lower setting and fine-tune the level with the audio interface preamp.
First lower the audio interface input gain and the speaker and headphone monitoring volume. Confirm that the XLR cable and microphone input are working correctly, then select the PD500X preamp setting and gradually adjust the audio interface preamp. The PD500X is a dynamic microphone and does not require 48V phantom power for normal use.
Treat them as two stages in the same gain chain: select Preamp Off, +20 dB, or +30 dB first, then use the audio interface preamp for fine adjustment. The goal is to keep the loudest normal speech below clipping with enough headroom. Do not set both gain stages to maximum.
Check that the XLR cable is connected to the microphone input rather than a regular line input. Confirm the preamp setting, then gradually increase the audio interface preamp. The PD500X does not rely on 48V phantom power to operate.
In USB mode, short-press the Mute button to toggle mute. A solid red light indicates that the microphone is muted; the red light turns off when the microphone is unmuted. The Mute button on the microphone is not available in XLR mode.
Enable Mute Lock in Maono Link. When Mute Lock is enabled, touching the Mute area on the microphone's LED light strip does not change the mute state. You can still control mute from the software.
The knob controls microphone gain by default. Short-press the knob to switch to headphone volume control, then rotate it to adjust the monitoring volume. Check whether the knob is currently controlling input gain or headphone volume before making an adjustment.
When the knob is being used for control, a brighter light generally indicates a higher adjustment value. When there is no operation, the LED light strip can indicate the level status: normal, near overload, or overload. If the Microphone Level Indicator is disabled in the software, the LED light strip no longer displays the real-time level signal.
Short-press the AI Noise Reduction button to cycle through Original Sound, Slight NR, Moderate NR, Aggressive NR, and Custom NR. You can also select the corresponding mode in the software.
First fix the microphone direction, distance, and speaking volume. Then set the gain using the loudest normal speech or performance section, leaving enough headroom and avoiding clipping. Do not raise the front-end gain simply to make the waveform reach the maximum level.
First confirm the speaking direction and distance, then increase the PD500X input gain. In USB mode, also check the system and application input levels. In XLR mode, check the audio interface preamp and use the built-in preamp only when necessary. Headphone volume changes only what you hear and does not increase the recording input level.
Lower the earliest gain stage in the signal chain: the PD500X hardware or software gain, the built-in preamp setting, or the audio interface preamp. Then increase the distance slightly and avoid speaking directly into the microphone with strong air bursts. Lowering the recording track fader or headphone volume cannot repair clipping that has already occurred at the front end.
Manual Gain is suitable when the microphone distance and speaking volume are stable. Maono Link supports a range of -18 dB to +18 dB. AGC automatically adjusts the input gain and is suitable when the speaking volume changes significantly, but it changes how subsequent dynamic processing works.
AGC continuously changes the input gain, which can make the Compressor and Limiter behave unpredictably. Maono Link therefore temporarily disables these settings when AGC is enabled. For detailed dynamic control, turn off AGC and use Manual Gain together with the Compressor and Limiter.
The microphone and software provide Original Sound, Slight NR, Moderate NR, Aggressive NR, and Custom NR. Custom NR in the software supports a range from 0 to 100. Start with Slight NR or Moderate NR and prioritize natural-sounding vocals.
Electronic Plosive Protection mainly reduces P/B plosives, T/K/H breath bursts, and the effect of strong air movement at close range. Noise Reduction mainly handles background noise such as air conditioners, fans, and keyboards. They can be used together, but placement and distance should be corrected first.
The Compressor narrows the dynamic range to make loud and quiet parts more even. The Limiter suppresses transient peaks near the upper limit to reduce the risk of clipping. Neither replaces correct front-end gain settings.
In most cases, adjust the outer Threshold control first. For more detailed control, open the More or Advanced Settings panel and adjust Threshold, Ratio, Attack Time, and Release Time. A practical starting point is approximately -18 dB to -12 dB for the Compressor Threshold and -6 dB to -3 dB for the Limiter Threshold. Then fine-tune by listening to the result.
Maono Link provides 10 preset Reverb levels and supports three saved Custom Reverb configurations. Use little or no Reverb for meetings, calls, and most podcasts to preserve clarity. Creative live streaming and performance scenarios may use more Reverb when appropriate.
Set Noise Reduction to Slight NR or Moderate NR, or lower the Custom NR value. Temporarily turn off Electronic Plosive Protection, the Compressor, EQ, and Reverb, then enable them one at a time to identify the cause. Prioritize improving the noise source, microphone distance, and room environment.
The manual lists support for Windows 10 version 1809 or later and macOS 13.5 or later. Confirm that the PD500X is recognized correctly via USB-C before installing and using the app.
The desktop app provides four preset scenes: Original Sound, Podcast, Voiceover, and Live Streaming. Selecting a scene automatically applies its preset sound effect configuration.
No. Preset sound effects are read-only. Create a Custom Sound Effect when you need to make adjustments. Custom Sound Effects can be edited, copied, renamed, deleted, imported, and exported.
Each sound effect configuration provides graphical PEQ adjustment, including HPF, LPF, and 10 Bands. You can drag the curve or enter parameter values to adjust filter type, frequency, gain, and Q value, and monitor the result in real time.
Use Export on the Custom Sound Effect or EQ curve to save a configuration file. Use Import on the target device or app to restore it. If you import an empty, damaged, invalid, or incompatible configuration file, the app should reject it and preserve existing configurations.
Wait for the status to synchronize, then reconnect the microphone or restart Maono Link. If the mismatch continues, record the software version, firmware version, and steps that reproduce the issue. Do not rely only on the LED light or an old interface to determine the current setting.
Maono Link desktop recording uses 48 kHz / 16-bit PCM by default and can export recordings directly to a target folder. This is the default recording-file setting; it does not mean that the hardware supports only 48 kHz / 16-bit. The device supports 48 / 96 / 192 kHz, 24-bit audio.
The mobile app supports connection authorization, Mute, Manual Gain and AGC, preset and Custom NR, preset and Custom Reverb, Compressor and Limiter, Scenes, Headphone Monitoring, Electronic Plosive Protection, the Microphone Level Indicator, and Mute Lock.
The current help document states that the mobile app does not support Custom Sound Effect configuration. Use the Maono Link desktop app for graphical PEQ, HPF, LPF, and multi-Band adjustment.
When the phone speaker is turned on, phone-audio monitoring is automatically disabled to prevent echo, feedback, and an audio loop. Turn off the phone speaker, connect headphones, and then check whether the phone monitoring source is selected in the app.
Return to the app and wait for the device status to recover. If it does not recover, reconnect the USB-C cable and check permissions. If the issue continues, close other apps that may be using the audio device and reopen Maono Link.
In USB mode, connect headphones to the PD500X 3.5mm headphone jack, then adjust the headphone volume with the knob or in Maono Link. In XLR mode, connect headphones to the audio interface and use its Direct Monitoring or monitoring routing.
Short-press the hardware knob to switch to headphone volume mode, or adjust the monitoring output volume in Maono Link. Headphone volume changes only the headphone loudness. Adjust the microphone gain, software input level, or audio interface preamp to change the recording level.
Select the desired sources under Monitoring Output in Maono Link. PD500X represents the microphone's own sound. Phone can represent music, game audio, or call audio. A selected source is sent to the headphones; a deselected source is not mixed into the monitoring output.
Confirm that the headphones are fully inserted into the PD500X 3.5mm jack. Short-press the knob to switch to headphone volume control and raise the volume moderately. Then check that the desired monitoring source is selected in Maono Link. In XLR mode, check the headphones, monitoring routing, and volume on the audio interface.
When recording with the Maono Link desktop app, export the recording to the target folder from the recording interface. When recording with third-party software, the file location is determined by that software's project or export settings.
Check the USB-C data cable, the computer or mobile phone port, the device connection, and system permissions in that order. Try another confirmed data cable and another USB port. A power-only cable cannot transmit audio data.
Close recording, meeting, or streaming apps that may be using the microphone. Reconnect the PD500X, then open Maono Link again. Also check whether the software and firmware are up to date.
Check whether the recording track is armed, whether the track is muted, whether the application is still using PD500X as its input device, and whether recording permission and the export path are correct. Do not check only the system level; confirm the actual input channel in the target application.
First check that the grille faces the sound source and that the distance is stable. Then reduce or disable excessive Noise Reduction, EQ, Compression, and Reverb. A cardioid microphone can reduce sound from off-axis directions, but it cannot completely eliminate room reflections, desk vibration, or computer fan noise.
Reconnect the USB-C cable and wait for the system to recognize the microphone again. Reopen Maono Link and select PD500X again in the recording, streaming, or meeting application. In XLR mode, check the audio interface input channel, cable, preamp setting, and input gain.
Contact support if the microphone is still not recognized, remains silent, disconnects repeatedly, or produces unexplained distortion after you have checked the cable, port, permissions, input device, Mute state, gain, and monitoring. Include the connection method (USB/XLR), operating system, Maono Link version, firmware version, audio interface model, reproduction steps, screenshots, and a short recording sample.
Software and firmware updates may change the interface, feature names, and status indicators. If the setting path differs from this FAQ, follow the current interface. If a problem occurs, record the software version, firmware version, and operating system information.
